Description |
First in a series of photos (ia-0370-0033 through ia-0370-0065) taken by Stanley Rhodes (1887-1929) during the construction of the old White River Bridge near Hazleton. Rhodes later died of tuberculosis contracted while working on the bridge. He captioned some of the photos. This photo is uncaptioned. An identical photo in the Purdue University archives is attributed to Granville C. Thompson (1898-1989). The bridge was built in 1923, abandoned in 1962, and closed permanently in 1989. Also called White River Old US 41 Bridge, Knox County Bridge #235, and Gibson County Bridge #385. |
