A young woman with bobbed hair stands in front of a barn painted "J. B. Sarff." and holds a rabbit. Handwritten on the album page by Mildred Rickert: "Just as docile as a bunny." The 1920 census for Ward Township, Randolph County, lists Justin B. Sarff and family living on the J. B. Sarff Road. [The woman on the left also appears in images ia-0326-c001-0009 and ia-0326-c001-0010.] |
Provenance |
From a photograph album compiled by Randolph County native Mildred Ruth (Rickert) Lowell (1906-1988). She documented her friends at John Herron Art Institute in 1927; Indiana University, where she graduated with a AB in Fine Arts in 1928; and at her first teaching job in Lafayette. She continued teaching after she married Harvey Matthew Lowell in Michigan in 1932 and went on to receive a MA in Art Education from the University of Michigan in 1945. |
