Brick storefront with "W. Tenth Street Jewelry / Graduate Optician" on window. Proprietor Henry Van Cleave (1863-1946) holds his grandson, baby Bobby Burkett (1930-2016). To the left is his wife Eva (Nicholas) Van Cleave (1866-1934) and on the right is their daughter Fern (Van Cleave) Burkett. The Van Cleaves lived with their daughter Fern, her husband Oscar, and their infant Bobby in the attached frame bungalow house on the right. Proprietor Henry Van Cleave, a native of Tippecanoe, had a jewelry store in Lodoga 26 years before moving to Indianapolis. He was a jeweler for 65 years and retired after 20 years in business in this location in April 1946. [Source: The Indianapolis Star, November 16, 1946, p. 26, obituary].
