Description |
A unit poses near the southeast quadrant of Monument Circle. The Circle Theatre and other buildings are decorated with flags and bunting and a large banner that reads "Shade With Jake." "Shake With Jake" was the Shriners' slogan for the meeting of the imperial council of the ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in Indianapolis, June 10-12, 1919, for the Imperial Potentate, Elias J. Jacoby, known as Jake. In 1919 he was touring temples throughout the Unites States. The visit included two street parades by uniformed organizations from many states and concerts by visiting bands. Over 100,000 visitors were expected. |
