Description |
Snapshot of soldiers standing at attention by the horse-drawn carriage and flag-draped coffin of James T. Evans (1891-1918), a private who lost his life in World War I. His obituary states that the Cicero native, a contractor, entered service on March 29, 1918 in Noblesville. He was sent to Camp Taylor, Kentucky and assigned to the 9th company, 3rd Battalion, 159th Infantry. After they embarked from Camp Upton, N.Y. in May 1918, Evans served as a runner, attached to the 28th Divison. He died July 18, 1918, from wounds received in action. Cicero's American Legion James Evans Post 341 is named in his honor. This view looks on East Jackson Street and the brick building on the right behind the tree is 29 East Jackson Street. |
