|Title||Wilmer and Margaret Christian home, 404 N. Alabama Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, ca. 1890|
Mounted ca. 1890 photograph of the northwest corner of E. Vermont and N. Alabama Streets in Indianapolis. The large brick house on the right (404 N. Alabama Street) was a double house built by Indianapolis contractors Shover and Christian for partner Wilmer Frederick Christian, Sr. (1838-1929) and his wife Margaret J. (Moore) Christian ( 1846-1904). They had lived on the site since 1869 before constructing this house in 1884-1885. A brick rental house stood at the back of their lot and Roberts Park United Methodist Church at 401 N. Delaware Street is seen in the distance. The photograph was taken in winter and snow covers the ground. People and three horse-drawn sleighs and vehicles are in the foreground.
The house became a rental in the 1930s and was razed in about August 1939 for the Sears Auto Service garage. As of 2016 the land is a parking lot for Roberts Park United Methodist Church.
