From a collection of photographs depicting the G.C. Murphy store and employees during a sale known as "Maxwell Street Days" which took place in late June 1959 according to ads in the Franklin Evening Star newspaper and signage visible in the photos. Other signage celebrating the 53rd anniversary of G. C. Murphy stores confirms the date. The company was founded in 1906 and celebrated its 53rd anniversary in 1959.
