Description |
Walt's supermarket located on the Southeast corner of Emerson Avenue and 16th Street in the Little Flower Neighborhood. Signs on the window advertise for steak, crackers, cottage cheese, fresh tomatoes, pies, and bananas during a 500 festival sale. According to community members, Walter (1904-1952) and Adina (Love) Wallace (1906-1991) owned and operated Walt's Supermarket chain. Their son, walter Dero Wallace (1924-1998), later managed the stores. Jim and his brother Ralph resided in the Emerson Heights Neighborhood at 862 North Bosart Avenue with their parents and siblings. Scanned for the Near Eastside Community Organization (NESCO), the collection depicts houses and busnesses on the near Eastside of Indianapolis. |
