Description |
The congregation and religious leaders pose in front of a brick church with lettering in a window that reads "Gt. George Syrian Orthodox Church." The year "1934" is written on the back. The church, located in the Brightwood neighborhood near the corner of 28th Street and Sherman Drive, was incorporated as St. George Syrian Antiochian Church of Indianapolis. This was the city's first Syrian church and the structure was used for this purpose until their new church was built in 1962. |
