Description |
11 men in suits stand in front of the Mineral Springs Hotel. A sign for the "King the Tailor" shop is on the left, and the office for R. L. Holaday, M. D. is on the right. A group of entrepreneurs formed a joint stock company to build the spa and draw people to Paoli's nearby mineral springs. Five architects submitted plans and the design of S. P. Bonsack of St. Louis was selected. Builders completed the four-story resort in 1896 with 80 rooms, bathrooms on every floor, a billiard hall, bowling alley, and ballroom. Electricity was created via the hotel's steam-powered Dynamo Generator, but it was shut off every evening at 11 p.m. |
