Born on April 5, 1872 in Pennsylvania, Nathan Stanley Good arrived in Lafayette in 1875. A member of the Painters and Decorators' Union, Good was a sign painter for many years. He died on June 3, 1930 in Lafayette. His work includes this sign. This is the Ninth Street (west) side of Henmiller's Grocery, built in 1852 as the Universalist Church. It was occupied by Salem Reformed Church from 1861-1890. The building was moved up to the sidewalk line and converted into a grocery store in the early-1890s. The brick building visible in the background at left is the back of the new Salem Reformed Church built in 1890 at Tenth and Ferry Streets. |
