Description |
Vignetted portrait of a bearded man. Based on an identified portrait of the same man posted on ancestry.com, this is probably Andrew Dodds (1828-1872), husband of Dr. Susanna (Way) Dodds. Andrew was born in Scotland to George and Isabella (Taylor) Dodds and immigrated to the United States where he lived in Ohio and studied at Antioch College. After serving in the Civil War, he co-founded the A. and G. Dodds and Company (a stone company) with his brother George Dodds in Xenia, Ohio. He moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he operated a branch of the business (variously named Andrew Dodds Granite Works; Dodds, McClaughry and Company; and St. Louis Scotch Granite Works). He died in 1872. |
