Description |
Circa 1885-1895 (based on clothing and photographic process) cabinet card of a horse-drawn wagon in front of the C. A. Cropper Grocery in Muncie, Indiana. The taller man in the doorway is proprietor Coria A. Cropper (1866-1938). Written in pencil under the image on the album page is "Papa's first store." Cropper first worked at his father Edward Thomas Cropper's grocery in Muncie. In the 1889 Muncie city directory he is listed as proprietor of the National Block Grocery, dealer in staple and fancy groceries, produce, etc., at 506 S. Walnut Street. In the 1891-1892, 1903, and 1910 directories the Cropper Grocery was located at 510 S. Walnut Street. Posters in the windows advertise "Edwin Browne" and the Northern Indiana Fair. |
