Moy Kee, recognized as the Mayor of Chinese community in Indianapolis, poses here with his wife Chin Fung in a circa 1904-1910 portrait. The embroidered badge of a pheasant on his robe or surcoat indicates his civilian rank of Mandarin of the Fifth Degree, an honor conferred upon him after he entertained Prince Pu Lun at his Indianapolis restaurant in 1904. He was a proud citizen of Indianapolis and wears a "No Mean City" ribbon, an unofficial slogan for the capital city. |
