Massachusetts Avenue looking northeast from the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, circa 1971-1973. Visible is the aqua metal-sided Sears building (later O'Malia's and Needler's grocery), the Murat Shrine Temple opposite the Athenaeum, the Barton Tower (built in 1968) and the Barton Annex (completed in 1971). In the distance is a swath of land recently cleared of houses and buildings to make way for interstate I-65 / I-70 split. To the right is St. Mary Catholic Church. |
