Title |
Five military officers holding pistols, Indianapolis, Indiana, 1898 |
Catalog Number |
ia-0005-0022 |
Description |
These Spanish-American War soldiers pose at Camp Mount in 1898. The camp, named after Indiana Governor James A. Mount, was located on the Indiana State Fairgrounds at 38th Street. Many trainees lived in barns, but moved to tents east of the racetrack so the State Fair could begin in July, 1898. Note the iron bridge, presumably over Fall Creek, to the left. Names on a sign indicate that this is the 28th Light Artillery from Fort Wayne. |
