Description |
Dated July 3, 1907 and signed "E. L. B." This Italian Villa style brick house with a tower set an an angle was built in 1876 and is known as the William M. Cockrum House or Cockrum Hall. It was built by Colonel William M. Cockrum (1837-1924) and his wife Lucretia (Harper) Cockrum (1839-1914). The Cockrums donated 10 acres near the home to Oakland City College and William was one of its founders. Their daughters lived in the house until 1958 and bequeathed the property to Oakland City College (later Oakland City University).
