Real photo postcard of Washington Park Cemetery, east of Indianapolis on the National Road. This aerial view looks east (with East Washington Street on the right and 10th Street on the left) and was taken from about the current (2025) location of Washington Square Mall. Seen in the distance is the town of Cumberland and the St. John United Church of Christ and Cemetery (originally Deutsche Evangelische St. Johannes Kirche). German Church Road, on the east side of the cemetery, was named for this church. The Washington Park Cemetery was laid out in 1927 as a burial place for Masons. In the spring of 1927 they dug the three-acre pond. In 1956 it was purchased by the Washington Park Cemetery Association. |
