The Alt Heidelberg was established by Dan Clemons, who in 1909 transformed an old hotel building into a German-themed "stag hotel" with German architectural details such as a stucco facade, diamond-shaped windows, and arched doorways. Benjamin and Rose (Poet) Waples, Elwood, Indiana, circa 1895 - ia-0001-3538
A handwritten label affixed to the back reads: "Rose Poet Waples / Bejam Pearl Waples." Benjamin P. Waples (1873-1912) married Rosa E. Poet (1873-1937) in Madison County, Indiana on September 5, 1891. They lived on a farm in Pipe Creek Township in 1900. Benjamin died of tuberculosis in 1912 at their home near Frankton. After his death, Rose married Charles Ferguson.
